JC A-Connect – School support

导师定期到学校爲学童进行小组训练及同侪活动。

Tutors regularly come to school for group training and peer activities for school children.

Introduction
As the number of students with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) studying in mainstream primary and secondary schools continues to rise, The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust appropriated HK$167 million to launch the "JC A-Connect: Jockey Club Autism Support Network" in 2015 in collaboration with the University of Hong Kong, the Education Bureau, Heep Hong Society and other NGOs. The three-year project is the first all-round support project in Hong Kong tailored for students with ASD studying in mainstream schools and their families. Public education activities are organised to eliminate misconceptions about individuals with ASD.

Service scope
Heep Hong Society has supported students with ASD at over 120 mainstream primary and secondary schools by providing group training on social communication and emotional regulation; organising peer activities to foster inclusion on campus; and supporting teachers through professional consultation, talks and workshops. The programme also provides systematic training courses and consultation for parents to help them understand their children better and acquire practical parenting skills. Family members can also enjoy a diversified range of family activities and gain positive energy.

After joining Heep Hong Society's programmes through the 'JC A-Connect: Jockey Club Autism Support Network', I have made significant improvement in managing my emotions, strengthening my social and problem-solving skills, and made a lot of friends at school. What made me most happy was that my doctor evaluated my progress on par with my peers at the same age.
