Heep Hong Society

Understanding Neurodiversity in Early Childhood : Neurodevelopmental Intervention and Strength Building

Heep Hong Society has more than 70 service units and project teams located across Hong Kong Island, Kowloon and the New Territories. Our team of professionals includes psychologists, speech therapists, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, nurses, social workers and teachers. We serve more than 27,000 children, young people and parents every year at our service units, as well as mainstream kindergartens, primary and secondary schools. As an innovative service provider, Heep Hong Society is dedicated to researching evidence-based treatment approaches and promoting the development of integrated education and the rehabilitation sector through research, training and publishing.

In recent years, public awareness of neurodiversity has continued to grow. Early identification of children's developmental needs and the provision of appropriate interventions have become important priorities for parents and educators. As children's brains are highly adaptable, especially during infancy and the preschool years, targeted learning and training can support the development of language, social, sensory, and motor coordination skills. In response, Heep Hong Society is pleased to organise the seminar "Understanding Neurodiversity in Early Childhood: Neurodevelopmental Intervention and Strength Building", featuring presentations by a Developmental-Behavioural Paediatrician, Educational Psychologist, Occupational Therapist, Speech Therapist, and Physiotherapist.

Drawing on multidisciplinary perspectives, the seminar will explore the concept of neurodiversity and the significance of early intervention in child development. Participants will gain insights into the characteristics and developmental profiles of children with diverse developmental needs, examine the relationship between early intervention and developmental outcomes, and learn about assessment approaches and intervention strategies across different professional disciplines. The seminar will also provide a comprehensive overview of how various therapeutic and support services can help children build on their learning strengths and achieve holistic development.
