Founded in 1963, Heep Hong Society provides professional training and education to children of different abilities and their families, with the mission of helping these children develop their potential and lead a fulfilling life. Nowadays, Heep Hong Society has over 30 units supported by the professional teams, including psychologists, speech therapists, occupational therapists, physical therapists, social workers and pre-school teachers; providing services to more than 6,000 families in Hong Kong.
We believe that children of different cultural backgrounds are entitled to have equal opportunities to develop their potential.
In general, South Asian children with special needs living in Hong Kong face greater developmental challenges.
Owing to language barriers, cultural and environmental differences, it is hard for their parents to grasp child-care knowledge, to identify problems of their children, and to make use of community resources to raise their children.
In the absence of early intervention, the growth and development of their children is thus affected adversely.
In view of this, Heep Hong Society took the initiative to provide “Support Services for Ethnic Minority Families of Children with Special Needs” for a period of two years (2009-2011) under the financial support of the Community Chest of Hong Kong.
